Sunnybrook Occupational Health & Safety Department

To Whom It May Concern

When it matters most, Sunnybrook Health Science Centre is always looking for a physical activity as a health and wellness program to be introduced to our 10,000 employees. It was important to us that this Nordic Pole Walking was a program that was low impact, enjoyable and healthy for all employees that may potentially have underlying medical conditions . We also wanted a program that was affordable so anyone could participate.

One of our employees introduced Dr. Klaus Schwanbeck to us on May 16th 2008. After a presentation for Nordic Pole Walking, a healthy sport which is very popular in Europe, we recognized immediately that this program would be perfect for all our employees. Information sessions were held by Dr. Klaus Schwanbeck to introduce Nordic Pole Walking to the Sunnybrook employees and we experienced immediate interest from our employees. Given the response at those sessions, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre decided to incorporate Nordic Pole Walking into our employee’s Wellness programs.

We also recognized the many excellent skills that Dr. Klaus Schwanbeck had brought to us at Sunnybrook and was willing to share with our employees. He is a weil known expert in Germany in Sports Medicine and founder of the German Health Preventive Network. Dr. Klaus Schwanbeck’s curriculum is based on clinical and scientific studies. Therefore, today Nordic Pole Walking courses in Germany are financed from German health insurance companies by law of Germany’s Ministry of Health.

Dr. Klaus Schwanbeck certified a few Sunnybrook staff to be instructors in Nordic Pole Walking. This program became popular overnight and we were forced to train additional instructors and added more sessions just to meet the needs of our many interested staff.

Although Sunnybrook offers many weliness initiatives, it has been over 2 years now and the Nordic Pole Walking classes continues to be the most popular program that we have ever offered and we owe this popularity to Dr. Klaus Schwanbeck. Dr. Klaus Schwanbeck continues to work with us assisting with advertisement, free trial classes and with the use of surveys to ensure our employees are continually satisfied.

Dear Klaus
I thoroughly enjoyed attending your demonstration this morning.  I have wanted to learn about “Pole Walking” for some time and now I am very excited to attend your certification program.  I will definitely rearrange my schedule so that I can attend your “Nordic Pole Walking Instructor Certification” on June 9th at NYGH from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.

I look forward to meeting you again on the 9th.
Thank-you again

Hello Dr. Schwanbeck,
Thank you so much for coming to Bridgepoint Hospital and talking to us about Nordic Pole Walking.  I learned a lot from your session and also very much appreciated that you took the time after your presentation to show us the proper grip technique and how to adjust the poles.

I took some time to look at your website and am very much interested in taking the instructor courses.  You had mentioned that a course will be offered at North York General.  Will that be the Social NPW Instructor course?  I am very interested in taking the Professional NPW Instructor and possibly the Master Instructor courses.  Are these courses offered in Toronto as well?
Thank you for your time!
Auf Wiedersehen!

hi klaus — yes, i think that it went really well…  there was lots of interest and three people (including joyce) are going out to use the poles at lunch today.  thank you SO MUCH for your offer of support.  i think that it will get the ball really rolling here at bridgepoint.

is there any chance that you can send me your presentation and i can put it into a PDF and send it to everyone that was there/interested… along with the initial follow up notice/ invitation for the July demonstration (week of July 6th – to be determined which afternoon once you have confirmed your trip)?

and i will definitely be in town when you are next here in july.. as i’m not taking another vacation week until later that month (up at a cottage on on our our beautiful muskoka lakes).

Dear Dr.Klaus,
It was a pleasure meeting you at Thornhill Sq this morning and look forward to seeing you at Sunnybrook tomorrow. I thouroughly enjoyed the professional training sessions. The presentation technique makes it easy for any one to learn in a short time and enjoy.

I wish to get more involved and hope to share the experience with others. Thank you for introducing this programme in Canada and in our neighbourhood.

 Regards,

I met with you on Saturday September 12, 2009 at Erin Dale Park. We had a wonderful walk on the trail and you reiterated some pointers Rey Sunglao gave me.
I just want to say a BIG THANK YOU for the Nordic Pole Walking, because of them I lost 8 lbs. in 1 month and my sugar has decreased from 8.6 to 8.1 (it has been 8.6 for some time).
I have been trying all types of diets and exercises, buying equipments etc., but all they did was help me to loose a few inches.
